The Tuscaloosa Children’s Center, Inc. has been a regular recipient of funding from the CFWA. This wonderful program partners with local law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Human Resources to provide investigative, advocacy, counseling, and community education to Alabama’s smallest victims of crime. We are proud to be a part of this great service. Ebony Johnson is the executive director of the TCC. The waiting room has hundreds of hand prints on the wall!
The Tuscaloosa City Schools and the Tuscaloosa County Schools were both represented recently with the presentation of grants for classroom teachers. In the past 5 years the CFWA has given $1 million to education in the form of teacher grants, scholarships, gifts to higher ed, etc. We are very thankful for our classroom teachers.
Each year in December the CFWA funds a special day for selected children from the elementary schools in the Tuscaloosa County School System. This is a favorite event for the Foundation.
Here are 2 of our wonderful supporters. Don’t they look festive?
The CFWA has partnered with the Druid City Garden Project several times to bring this wonderful experience to some of our local elementary schools. Here is a picture of the students from Cresmont Elementary in Northport receiving instruction prior to harvesting and preparing their vegetables.
Wilford Calhoun demonstrates making cedar shingles with old tools for the 4th grade students in Northport Elementary schools. The students were able to visit many stations and learn about the way of life of their ancestors. The project was partially funded by the CFWA.
These organizations were funded through our Fall Grant Cycle and recognized at a reception at the home of Jim and Dianna Flemming.
