COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO ALICEVILLE MUSEUM

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $738.00 grant has been awarded to Aliceville Museum.  The museum opened in 1995 and educates visitors from all over the states and Europe about this unique period in Aliceville’s history as well as the war itself.  The museum preserves a collection of artifacts from the Aliceville German Prisoner of War Camp.  The camp housed 6,000 Germans and a few Italians from 1943 to 1945.  The museum maintains several vintage uniforms, rare military maps, photographs, twenty-seven medals, POW artwork, sculpture and rare documents from the U.S. and German armies.  The grant will be used for preservation tools and materials to help preserve the collections. 

This grant was one of thirteen grants funded by the P.D. & Anna E. COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO AMERICAN RED CROSS-WEST ALABAMA CHAPTER

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $1000.00 grant has been awarded to The American Red Cross – West Alabama Chapter.  This grant will be used to update computer systems which will assist in expediting help to disaster victims in the surrounding counties. 

This grant was one of thirteen grants funded by the P.D. & Anna E. Brown Education, Health & Welfare Fund of CFWA.  A total of $13,583 was awarded to area agencies.  The Community Foundation of West Alabama, established in 1999, is a charitable organization which supports various cultural, health, social and educational programs in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties.  A grants committee selects grant recipients. 



COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO THE ARC Of TUSCALOOSA COUNTY

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $1000.00 grant has been awarded to The Arc of Tuscaloosa County.  The Arc was founded in 1957 and serves adults with cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.  The $1000.00 grant will be used to help with a horticultural program which is a treatment modality to help improve social, cognitive, physical, psychological, and general health and well-being of its participants. 

This grant was one of thirteen grants funded by the P.D. & Anna E. COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO UA CHILD DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $2000.00 grant has been awarded to UA Child Development Resources.  UA Child Development Resources established a Baby TALK clinic visitation program in Pickens County.  This is a supportive training program for parents of very young children – children who are three years old and younger.  The program provides parents the skills and knowledge needed to establish strong relationships with their children, to recognize their own personal strengths, to develop an understanding of child development, and to engage in age appropriate activities with their children.  Further emphasis is placed on reading to children to encourage the formulation of early literacy skills that are a foundation for school readiness and as a major mechanism for strengthening the parent/child bond.  Via the Baby TALK delivery method, parents become knowledgeable about their child’s development, and they learn nurturing skills.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO PROJECT B.E.T.H.E.L.

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $1000.00 grant has been awarded to Project B.E.T.H.E.L.  Project B.E.T.H.E.L. was established in May of 1999.  It is the only program of its kind to provide continued education for students who have been expelled from the Tuscaloosa City and County School Systems.  It provides an opportunity for students to continue their education, develop positive social skills, modify negative behavior, and develop positive attitudes and a desire to succeed in a structured supervised environment.  The intended benefits are to return to the normal classroom setting for many while others prepare for the GED exam and pursue opportunities to further their education and/or become gainfully employed.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO CHILDREN’S HANDS-ON MUSEUM OF TUSCALOOSA

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $1000.00 grant has been awarded to the Children’s Hands-On Museum of Tuscaloosa.  The grant will be used toward the development of a new “Space Station” exhibition gallery inside the museum, a series of space-related education programs and curriculum materials designed for grades K-8.

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $945.59 grant has been awarded to The Coleman Center for Arts and Culture.  The Coleman Center offers exhibition opportunities for local, regional and national artists.  The grant will be used to improve exhibition space for a Spotlight Gallery

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF TUSCALOOSA

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $1000.00 grant has been awarded to Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa.  The local affiliate will enter its 20th year of service to the Tuscaloosa community in 2007.   The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to empower low income families to overcome the obstacles of the rising cost of living.  The local chapter now serves over one-hundred Tuscaloosa-area families each year.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO THE DCH FOUNDATION, INC.

The Community Foundation of West Alabama (CFWA) recently announced that a $1000.00 grant has been awarded to the DCH Foundation, Inc.  The DCH Health Systems provide care for several under/uninsured families each year.  These services include care for obstetrical patients at both, the Tuscaloosa and Northport facilities.  Each year, there are several stillborn babies or babies who die shortly after birth.  Some of these families cannot afford a proper burial and this money will be used to purchase caskets for these babies and help grieving families during a difficult time.
